The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at USD is part of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (SMSE), which is ranked by U.S. News in the top 15 of non-doctoral engineering schools. The department offers undergraduate degrees in industrial and systems engineering and consists of faculty who are devoted to challenging and inspiring students to learn the technical and professional skills in work analysis, quality assurance, operations research, manufacturing, systems engineering, simulation, facilities, production planning and supply chain areas. The mission of the school is to provide graduates with the perspective, social awareness and leadership skills necessary for becoming change making engineers. Detailed Description This is a part-time temporary, non benefit-based position with an anticipated end date of May 29, 2026. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding.

The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department is looking to hire one adjunct instructor in the Spring 2026 semester to teach one section of Manufacturing Processes Laboratory (ISYE 350L). The adjunct instructor can use existing course content and lab assignments. More information about the course is below:

ISYE 350L is the lab component of the Manufacturing Processes course (ISYE 350) taken by industrial and systems engineering majors (juniors).

Class meets on campus on Tuesdays from 9:15 to 12:05 pm, from January 26th to May 11th.

Course description: Applications of theoretical concepts learned in the Manufacturing Processes lecture class to design products, develop computer codes for machining, and produce parts out of various starting materials such as metals and plastics while considering quality, cost and sustainability implications. Manufacturing methods include, but not limited to: computer numerical control (CNC) machining, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), welding, plastics forming, and design for manufacturing and assembly.

Instructor's responsibilities include: lab preparation (instructional materials are available to share), grading of student works, holding 1.5 hours of office hours each week, providing a written course assessment and submitting student work assessment at the end of the semester for ABET purposes.

Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree or higher in Industrial and Systems Engineering or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Industry experience in manufacturing processes and systems is highly valued.

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
