Robin Smith Ward is a 28‑bedded surgical ward caring for elective and emergency patients as well as ITU step‑down patients. We work across multiple specialties including Colorectal, Upper GI, Urology, Gynaecology, Max fax, ENT with a special interest in Enhanced Recovery.

We are a vibrant team that thrives on teamwork to provide patient‑centred post‑operative care. We are friendly, hardworking and supportive, continually looking for new ways to develop our staff.

This role offers the opportunity to work with an experienced team, develop your surgical skills and gain additional competencies if desired. You will work alongside highly experienced nurses and healthcare workers, with full support as you settle into your new position.

Main duties of the job

Act as a Named Nurse, maintaining accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.

Co‑ordinate patients' discharge arrangements in accordance with RUH Discharge Policy.

Promote a patient‑focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.

Educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified.

Provide information enabling patients to make choices about adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Complete patient documentation correctly.

Maintain a safe ward/department environment.

Assist in establishing and monitoring protocols and care pathways.

Participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication.

Ensure patient confidentiality.

Person specification Qualifications

NMC registration

Ability to demonstrate thorough and up‑to‑date knowledge of nursing theory and practice

Acute UK hospital experience

Teaching and assessing experience

Knowledge

Understanding of the NMC Code of Practice and requirements

At least 6 months experience in a hospital setting post‑qualifying
