Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of a Supervising Bridge Engineer (Office Chief, Structure Office Engineer), the incumbent is responsible for research and development of structure specifications for the construction of bridges, retaining walls and other transportation-related structures.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Bridge Engineer exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. SENIOR BRIDGE ENGINEER
Special Requirements
The incumbent must possess a valid certification of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. The SOQ must be typed and no more than 2 pages, single-spaced, using 12-point Arial font.
Your SOQ must include each question as a section title. For each section, provide specific and detailed examples including dates.
1. Describe your experience developing, modifying, interpreting, or reviewing structure-related contract specifications, including Standard Specifications, Standard Special Provisions, and nonstandard Special Provisions.
2. Explain your experience applying structural construction practices, bridge engineering principles, or design requirements in a professional engineering setting.
3. Provide examples demonstrating your experience leading or coordinating the work of engineers or technical staff, mentoring others, setting priorities, organizing workloads, or providing technical guidance.
4. Describe situations in which you prepared a technical document (such as a specification, report, memo, or guidance) or communicated complex technical information to internal or external partners.
