Job Title Maintenance Tech II - 2nd Shift

FLSA Status Hourly

Department Maintenance

Summary As a valuable member of the Maintenance Team, a Maintenance Technician I will assist other members of the maintenance team in assuring smooth operation of all Standard Meat building systems. Duties will include equipment/building system monitoring, preventive maintenance, and repair. Shifts, starting times, and workdays are determined by production scheduling and coordinated by maintenance supervision to provide adequate coverage of all affected areas. Good attendance and availability for overtime and weekend work are required.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Routinely inspect equipment – identify potential failure and safety hazards.

Perform preventive maintenance tasks – maintain operational ability and integrity of equipment; keep maintenance areas up to Master Sanitation standards.

Operate equipment – safely use hand tools, power tools, large shop tools, test instruments (e.g., voltage meter); operate forklifts and electric pallet jacks.

Maintain required records and documents – daily notes in OneNote, PM assignments/work orders, blade removal log, packaging machine tooling checks, refrigeration logs.

Basic Job Requirements

Air filter, V‑belt, light bulb replacement.

Basic plumbing – water closet, sinks, fittings, pipe threading.

Door repairs – seals, handles.

Inspection of safety devices – fire extinguishers, eyewash stations.

Building and grounds maintenance.

Oil change responsibilities.

Bearings lubrication and repair.

Conveyor belt, pneumatic hose repair.

Process equipment assembly.

Electrical troubleshooting – plugs, relays, VFDs, motor/gearbox repair.

Reading schematics and pneumatic diagrams, tap and die use.

Advanced welding and fabrication.

Safety relay understanding and circuit testing.

Testing of electrical devices – motor brakes.

Building systems operation and repair – boilers, air compressors, HVAC, refrigeration.

CAN BUS system repairs.

Equipment overhauls – complete rebuilds.

Advanced refrigeration training – ammonia, Operator 1.

Advanced electrical troubleshooting – HMI, PLC, I‑O modules.

Design/installation of automated systems.

Fire alarm and life safety systems.

Advanced mechanical rebuilds – high‑pressure intensifier, transmission.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities

Maintain a clean and clutter‑free work area.

Follow all GMP and safety guidelines.

Keep personal tools cleaned and stored.

Food Safety and Employee Safety

Understand and follow GMP requirements.

Follow Standard Meat Company maintenance and safety programs.

Use appropriate personal safety equipment at all times (hard hats, steel‑toe boots, hairnets, clean frocks, vinyl gloves).

Keep tools clean; do not bypass safety devices.

Work assignments coordinated by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Education and/or Experience High school diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of 2 years related experience or training; minimum of 5 years of direct or related maintenance experience.

Physical Demands

Stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger/handle, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.

Capacity to lift up to 100 °F for more than two‑thirds of the time; occasional lifting of >100 °F.
