Job Description The Assistant plays a key role in fostering a positive relationship between the library and its patrons during the evening and late‑night hours. When emergencies involving facilities or user behavior occur, the Assistant serves as the primary point of contact for campus police and auxiliary services. The Assistant also supervises student employees during these hours and is responsible for closing both the Bapst and O’Neill Libraries in accordance with their specified hours.

The Evening Access Services Assistant handles Interlibrary Loan requests, using the library catalog, the integrated library system (ALMA), the Interlibrary Loan platform (ILLiad), scanners, and other related systems and software. The Assistant is responsible for performing all types of circulation‑related tasks, including lending library materials, processing returns, placing holds, and creating guest accounts. Additional duties include contributing to collection maintenance projects and routine activities. Working evenings and late nights as part of a small team, the Assistant must interpret and communicate library policies clearly to ensure users receive consistent and accurate information.

Grade: 1ST

Schedule: 35‑hour week, 12 months per year, permanent position.

Hours:

Fall/Spring: Sunday‑Thursday: 6:15 pm to 2:15 am Summer: Sunday, 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday‑Thursday, 3:00 pm‑11:00 pm

Hiring Range: $22.06/hr to $27.58/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements Required Qualifications

High School Diploma

Demonstrated commitment to customer service

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑based environment

Ability to communicate with faculty, students, and staff

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Familiarity with library organization, cataloging, and classification.
