What is the LTIP?

The LTIP is an incentive program that typically vests over a three‑year period and is tied to both individual performance and Texas Oncology’s operational success. Awards are discretionary, based on position, performance, and potential for future career growth; they are reviewed and approved during the annual compensation review and are subject to continued employment through the award payment date.

What does the MLS do?

Responsible for accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures, including moderate and high complexity laboratory tests. Initiates and follows quality assurance and safety policies. Performs specimen collection and assists with patient flow as needed. Trains employees in laboratory procedures, may act as primary operator for at least one equipment, and serves as a resource for laboratory science information.

Responsibilities

Assists with performing phlebotomy and collecting appropriate specimens from patients as ordered.

Assists with special procedures as needed (e.g., bone marrow in the room).

Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.

Performs specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology specimens.

Maintains and operates all laboratory equipment, performing daily, weekly and monthly maintenance as indicated.

Adheres to quality control policies, documenting all QC activities, calibrations and instrument maintenance.

Participates in proficiency testing, reporting results at least once a year.

Prepares peripheral blood smear and performs complete WBC differential on normal and abnormal smears.

Performs microscopic examination of urinary sediment.

Records results on the appropriate worksheet and computer system, performs file maintenance and processes specimens for send‑out testing.

Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and implements corrective actions.

Maintains proper documentation, including accessioning logs, test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records and checklists.

Manages inventory of supplies, prepares reagents, stains and other solutions, and restocks the laboratory area.

Sends specimens to reference laboratories when testing cannot be performed in‑house.

Charts patient results in a timely manner and ensures compliance with laboratory policies.

Properly identifies and bands patients for blood product transfusion, following local bloodbank policy.

Trains employees in laboratory procedures.

May act as primary operator for at least one laboratory instrument.

Participates in the development of new instruments and procedures.

Serves as a resource for laboratory science information.

May oversee daily laboratory activities in the absence of a supervisor.

Complies with all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.

Properly disposes of hazardous materials and maintains a clean working environment.

Maintains confidentiality of all patient and medical staff information.

Performs CLIA classified moderate and high complexity testing with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

Level 1

– Minimum requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related health‑care field; or relevant experience.

Associate’s degree plus four (4) years of related work experience.

• OR •

Eight (8) years of related work experience.

Current state license if required.

AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.

Position is entry level and requires no experience.

Licensure and certification requirements depend on the state.

Except for grandfathered situations, a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology is required.

Level 2

– In addition to Level 1 requirements, requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience.

Level Sr

– In addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements, requires five (5) years of experience.

Physical Demands

Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity; requires sitting/standing for extensive periods of time; occasional lifting up to 40 lbs; requires corrected vision, color perception and normal hearing; legible handwriting.

Work Environment

The work is performed in an office environment with significant interaction with management, staff, external auditors and clients. Frequent travel by air or automobile for approximately 70% of the work week is required.
