Organization: Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) Location: Bronx, NY (Hybrid)

Work Schedule: One (1) day per week in-office; flexible schedule and hybrid/remote work for remaining hours Contract Term: Through June 30, 2026 Compensation: $30–$35 per hour, depending on experience Schedule: 16-20 hours per week Extension: This contract may be extended pending funding and organizational needs. Any extension or transition will be contingent upon available funding and organizational priorities.

About Bronx River Art Center Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) is a Bronx-based, multi-arts nonprofit organization founded in 1987. BRAC provides a forum for community, artists, and youth to transform creativity into vision through programs in education, exhibitions, artist studios, and performing arts. Rooted in community, equity, and environmental stewardship, BRAC is currently in an active period of organizational growth and transition.

Position Overview BRAC seeks a Grant Writer & Development Associate to support institutional fundraising and development operations during a critical growth period. This role is well-suited for either a mid-level grant writer seeking a focused, part-time contract or a rising development professional looking to deepen institutional giving experience in a small, dynamic arts organization.

This position is funding-contingent; continuation, extension, or expansion of the role is dependent on organizational budget, funding outcomes, and programmatic priorities.

Key Responsibilities Grant Writing & Institutional Giving Research, write, and submit foundation, corporate, and government grant proposals

Compile and prepare all required grant materials, including narratives, budgets, financial documents, and attachments

Coordinate with program and finance staff to gather accurate and timely information for proposals

Maintain grant calendars, submission deadlines, and reporting schedules

Draft & Submit (in collaboration with programs manager) interim and final grant reports

Collaborate on the tracking of grant requirements, deliverables, and compliance needs

Maintain organized digital grant files and documentation

Support preparation for audits, site visits, and funder reviews, as needed

Development Operations & Donor Support Support individual donor acknowledgements, stewardship communications, and data entry

Maintain accurate donor and grant records in BRAC’s database/CRM

Assist with mid-year and year-end fundraising campaigns

Support Spring Gala planning, including development-related logistics and coordination (this work is seasonal and limited in scope)

Support board-related fundraising and development initiatives, as appropriate

Research & Special Projects Support Spring Gala outreach, including drafting, sending, and tracking invitations and follow-up communications

Conduct outreach to prospective corporate sponsors for the Spring Gala, in coordination with the Executive Director and Board

Conduct prospect research for new institutional and individual funding opportunities

Assist with development data tracking, analysis, and internal reporting

Support special development projects as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications 2–4 years of nonprofit development experience, with a strong emphasis on grant writing

Demonstrated success writing foundation or government grant proposals

Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills

Ability to manage multiple deadlines independently

Experience compiling grant budgets and financial attachments preferred

Familiarity with donor databases/CRMs and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace

Commitment to equity, community-centered work, and BRAC’s mission

Arts and culture experience or knowledge is required

Familiarity with the Bronx or work in the outer boroughs is a plus

Airtable knowledge is a plus

Spanish Proficiency is a plus

Contractor Status This role is a 1099 independent contractor position, not an employee role. The Grant Writer & Development Associate will not be eligible for employee benefits, paid time off, or participation in BRAC’s benefit programs. The contractor will exercise independent judgment in how work is performed, manage their own schedule within agreed-upon deadlines.. BRAC will not withhold taxes, and the contractor is responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
