Board Member & Finance/Treasurer Officer . We are seeking “passionate” leaders committed to social impact, innovation, and equity.

NOTE : As a smaller nonprofit, each Board Member serves in a dual capacity: 1) As a Board Member (responsible for governance) and Finance/Treasurer Officer (responsible for operational duties).
Position Summary The
Board Member & Finance/Treasurer Officer
serves as a key fiduciary leader of The B.R.A.V.E. Project™ Board of Directors. This role is responsible for financial oversight, strategic fiscal management, and ensuring the financial stability and transparency of the organization. The Finance/Treasurer Officer oversees the organization’s financial systems—including
QuickBooks (REQUIRED) —and ensures compliance with nonprofit financial regulations. This role works closely with the Chair and Board Members to maintain accurate financial reporting, support budgeting, and guide financial strategy for sustainability and growth.
Key Responsibilities Leadership and Governance
Provide leadership and guidance to the Board of Directors in financial stewardship and governance.
Ensure that all Board activities align with the organization’s Mission Statement, strategic goals, and values.
Contribute meaningfully to strategic discussions, planning, and decision‑making.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and mission‑driven Board culture.
Actively participate in board committees and contribute expertise in governance, strategy, and operations.
Financial Oversight and Management
Oversee and safeguard the financial status of The B.R.A.V.E. Project™, ensuring sound fiscal management practices and organizational financial health.
Manage and maintain the organization’s
QuickBooks system (REQUIRED) , including monthly reconciliation, transaction categorization, and receipting.
Lead the development of the annual budget in collaboration with the Chair and Board, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
Provide regular financial reports to the Board of Directors, including Profit and Loss Statements, cash flow reports, budget vs. actuals, and financial forecasts.
Ensure all financial records are reconciled monthly and accurately reflect the organization’s activity.
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures that ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with nonprofit financial regulations.
Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the organization has sufficient resources to meet its obligations.
Oversee financial components of fundraising campaigns, sponsorships, and events to ensure proper allocation and documentation.
Lead the organization’s independent annual audit of financial operations, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and compliance with audit standards.
Prepare required reports and documentation needed for annual nonprofit taxes, ensuring completeness and timely submission.
Mentor and supervise a college student intern with an accounting, finance, or similar background, engaging them in real‑world nonprofit financial operations.
Support grant compliance through tracking, documentation, and required financial reporting.
Support matching contributions through tracking, documentation, and required financial reporting.
Strategic Financial Planning
Provide financial analysis and recommendations to guide strategic decision‑making.
Support the development of sustainable funding strategies to ensure long‑term organizational stability.
Collaborate with the Chair and Board on investment considerations, grant compliance, and risk management strategies.
Qualifications
Proven experience in nonprofit governance, financial management, accounting, or a related field—or willingness to obtain a Nonprofit Finance Certification within 1 year of accepting the Treasurer role.
Proficiency with QuickBooks (REQUIRED)
and strong understanding of nonprofit financial regulations, budgeting, and financial reporting.
CPA Highly Preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills with the ability to facilitate discussions and drive alignment.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of The B.R.A.V.E. Project™.
Ability to work collaboratively with Board Members, staff, and external partners.
Experience leading diverse teams and promoting accountability and transparency.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, MBA, MPA, or related discipline (preferred but not required)
Coursework or certification in nonprofit finance or nonprofit management preferred
**CPA or CMA Highly Preferred**
Preferred Experience
3+ years of experience in accounting, finance, auditing, or financial oversight
Prior experience as a Treasurer, Finance Officer, or similar fiduciary role
Experience managing or operating
QuickBooks
in a nonprofit or small‑business environment
Experience preparing or overseeing annual nonprofit tax filings (Form 990 or similar)
Experience supporting or leading independent financial audits
Experience developing and managing budgets in a nonprofit environment
Experience drafting or implementing financial policies and internal controls
Experience mentoring or supervising students, interns, or junior staff (preferred)
Experience collaborating with senior leadership or boards of directors
Experience managing grant reporting, restricted funds, or program budgets
This is a volunteer, unpaid Board role
Renewable term as approved by the Board
Pre‑approved expenses may be reimbursed (as outlined in board policy)
