Job Purpose and Summary Assists in the inspection and testing of construction materials and workmanship on highway, bridge, or other construction projects. Assigned to inspection teams to perform simple inspection, measuring, or computing duties with guidance until proficiency is achieved. Expected to work independently after training, with supervisory review via reports.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Assist in performing inspections of workmanship and materials on construction projects.
Maintain complete records and documentation of work performed to support final cost determination.
Observe, inspect, and verify that methods, materials, equipment, and workmanship conform to quality requirements, standards, and specifications.
Enforce federal, state, and local laws regulating construction procedures, safety practices, and working conditions with supervision.
Interpret contract requirements to contractors and construction workers with supervision.
Read and interpret assigned civil engineering plans, maps, and specifications.
Log data and maintain records related to projects.
Work extended hours, on call 24/7, to assist in normal and emergency operations.
Use situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Possession of a NICET Level 1 certification in a Civil Engineering Technology related program.
OR must obtain a NICET Level 1 certification within 12 months to maintain employment.
One year of experience in highway construction inspection, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training.
Valid driver’s license.
