Responsibilities

The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served. The RN records patients' medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and helps with patient follow‑up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes a care plan or contributes to an existing plan, which may include activities such as administering medication, starting and maintaining intravenous (IV) lines, conducting therapies, observing the patient, consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians, and teaching patients and families about post‑treatment and home‑care needs. The RN provides direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides regarding patient care and delegates when appropriate. The RN supports efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills. They precept new hire staff and students, assist staff and students in completing required competency tasks, and continually enhance their knowledge in nursing management and patient care. The RN may also work to improve patient experience, clinical outcomes, and promote a healthy work environment, using evidence‐based practice and a shared governance model for decision‐making. Essential Functions

Collect and analyze health data systematically, prioritizing based on patient condition and family involvement; use nursing diagnosis to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise patient care plans that are family‑centered and culturally relevant. Identify expected outcomes for each patient and create individualized care plans reflecting current evidence‑based practice. Implement interventions, initiate treatments and medications, and provide care that meets physical, emotional, spiritual, and social‑cultural needs through a family‑centered approach. Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes, document observations, interventions, and data in a retrievable form, and adjust care plans to enhance patient outcomes. Continuously evaluate nursing practice relative to professional standards, regulations, and policies, maintaining current knowledge and improving quality. Apply ethical principles in all practice aspects, enhance cultural and diversity awareness, and foster peer relationships and professional development through preceptor and mentor programs. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care delivery, and support the use of evidence‑based research to improve practice and patient outcomes. Education

Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) – Preferred All diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 5+ years of RN experience (direct or indirect patient care) at the time of hire – Required Associate's degree or Diploma in Nursing; staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients must meet stroke‑specific education requirements – Required Experience

10+ months in a med‑surg or acute specialty setting – Required 1 year RN experience for all float positions – Required Licenses and Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and unit‑specific certification as required by specialty area – Required Registered Nurse (RN) state or compact state licensure in Arizona upon hire – Required National certification for unit‑specific patient population – Preferred
