Position Overview South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is recruiting Licensed and Licensed‑eligible Psychologists for secure facilities and community division. The role involves forensic evaluations, evidence‑based therapeutic engagement, treatment, and rehabilitation for juvenile justice‑involved youth.

Job Purpose Develops and implements evaluation, consultation, and clinical services for youth within four secure facilities. Primary responsibility at Midlands Evaluation and Development Center (MEDC). Provides supervision of evaluation and therapeutic services when required.

Job Responsibilities

Complete court‑ordered psychosocial evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and related tasks.

Conduct clinical interviews with youth and family members, review records, and consult with DJJ County Office staff and other agencies.

Administer and interpret psychological tests.

Provide individual, group, and family treatment services.

Maintain youth treatment plans.

Communicate and consult with DJJ Community Office staff regarding youth/family progress.

Identify youth with serious mental illness or intellectual disability and refer to appropriate agencies.

Participate in interagency staffings and sub‑classification processes regarding these youth.

Provide crisis intervention and follow‑up services during the workday.

Provide after‑hours on‑call crisis intervention on a rotating basis.

Supervise evaluation and therapeutic services provided by facility mental health professionals when required.

Provide interdisciplinary trainings to facility mental health professionals and staff.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A doctorate in applied psychology from an accredited college or university and experience in the practice of applied psychology.

Thorough knowledge of current psychological theory/practice and psychological evaluation/assessment techniques.

Ability to select, administer, and interpret psychological tests and effectively communicate findings.

Excellent writing skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with juveniles, staff, relevant agencies, and the concerned public.

Must be able to work in a secure facility setting and have confidence/endurance for a sometimes hostile work environment.

Must be able to walk, lift 25 lbs.

On‑call duties required; must be able to work varied hours if necessary.

Position involves duties relating to custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth; training provided.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in applied psychology from an APA‑accredited program and experience in the practice of applied psychology.

Currently licensed to practice psychology in SC or licensed‑eligible with ability to obtain licensure within two (2) years of hire.

Experience conducting and completing evaluations and providing therapeutic services to youth within a secure environment.

Sign‑On Bonus This position is eligible for a $10,000 sign‑on bonus. Sign‑on bonuses are limited to one per employee per year and are not offered to employees moving from other agencies by transfer, promotion, or demotion.

Salary Licensed Psychologists: $111,959 per year Licensed‑eligible Psychologists: $102,583 per year Post‑doctoral Resident: $102,583 per year
