Registered Nurse, NICU, PRN role at North Mississippi Health Services. The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing safe, quality patient care using the nursing process, maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role requires leadership skills in prioritizing, delegating, and evaluating work assignments, as well as effective problem‑solving abilities to respond to changing patient needs.

Responsibilities

Uses the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.

Works to ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.

Provides patient/family education and acts as a resource for existing staff and new employees.

Participates in the Preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.

Maintains communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient.

Attends daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.

Projects a caring, friendly and helpful image to patients and other customers.

Utilizes the patient’s communication board (white board) to identify name, date, goals, other staff and procedures or tests for the day to keep patients and families informed.

Complies with NMHS behavioral standards.

Maintains competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.

Attends annual review and unit specific training within the department.

Performs required continuing education hours online and in classroom.

Complies with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.

Is licensed by the state Board of Nursing.

Qualifications Education

Associate’s Degree Registered Nurse. Required.

Completion of RN Orientation and approval of unit specific checklist requirements. Required.

Licenses and Certifications

RN – State Licensure or Compact State Licensure.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

NIH – National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Maintain department requirements for continuing education and unit specific requirements to provide appropriate age‑specific care.

Effective communication and teaching skills.

General knowledge of regulatory and accrediting standards.

Ability to prioritize, delegate and evaluate work assignments.

Ability to anticipate resources needed.

Ability to assimilate data and reports appropriately.

Orient new employees to the unit and report progress to charge nurse or nurse manager.

Routine contact with physicians, ancillary personnel, nursing personnel, patients, family, visitors.

Effective interpersonal skills to all customers and co‑workers in all aspects of patient care and job performance.
