Job Summary The Osterhout lab in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Utah seeks a Research Associate to assist with ongoing projects in the lab investigating the neurological mechanisms underlying sickness behaviors. A qualified individual will perform behavioral studies and analysis, in situ protein and RNA expression analyses with the goal of understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying hypersensitivity during sickness. A high degree of motivation, communication, and time-management skills is required.

Responsibilities

Assist with advanced behavioral studies

Use commercial and machine-learning-based tools for behavior analysis

Perform brain histology for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization

Lead experiments in cross-campus collaborations

Help train junior members of the lab

Keep thorough records of experimental design and results

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or related field

Experience working in team settings

Preferences

5+ years postdoctoral experience or equivalent

Experience working with mouse models

Experience in computational analysis
