The Surgical Intermediate Care Unit is a fast‑paced 12‑bed unit providing intermediate care to a variety of adult patient populations. Patients admitted to the SIMU have undergone complex surgical procedures, have traumatic injuries from a variety of mechanisms, and/or require frequent interventions and monitoring. With typical 1:3 nurse:patient ratios, the SIMU nurses work with the interprofessional team to assess, plan, and implement care. Nurses in the SIMU care for patients receiving high‑risk medications, including medications for conscious sedation for complex procedures both on the unit and in procedural areas. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire. Experience: 1 year of relevant experience. Licensure/Certifications: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift, push or pull 20–50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. Compensation
New hire compensation will be determined by previous work experience, education, and/or experience. Position Compensation Range: $39.90 – $53.00 per hour. Onboarding Requirements
Background checks and pre‑employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety‑sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen. Benefits
