Location Sugar Grove Campus (Hybrid Option: No)
About the Role The Chemistry Lab Technician reports to the Assistant Dean for Visual and Performing Arts, Education and Sciences. This part‑time position assists in the preparation of solutions and maintenance of instrumentation for chemistry laboratory classes.
Responsibilities
Assist Chemical Lab Coordinator in maintaining equipment and instrumentation used within the chemistry department.
Prepare chemical solutions following established procedures, including standardizations.
Set up and take down individual laboratory experiments according to prep sheets, storing equipment and materials properly.
Assist with student safety, troubleshooting equipment issues (e.g., pH meters, computer programs).
Support lab instructors during lab time and help with use of instruments such as gas chromatograph, infrared spectrophotometer, ultraviolet/visible spectrophotometer, and data collection sensors/software.
Inventory chemicals and supplies annually, update Access database, and alert when items are low.
Assist in ordering and receiving chemicals and supplies.
Follow all safety protocols from the Chemical Hygiene Plan, including disposal of waste, PPE use, and workspace cleanliness.
Research Safety Data Sheets and maintain up‑to‑date binders.
Complete mandatory training for lab safety and college compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Successful completion of one year of college chemistry with laboratory required.
Two years of college chemistry courses with laboratories or AS preferred.
Ability to work independently and follow written and oral directions.
Flexible schedule, including day and evening hours.
Personal transportation to travel between campuses if needed.
Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Good computer skills: Windows 10, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access.
Ability to lift 35 pounds independently.
