Responsibilities
Ensuring proper equipment, instruments and supplies are provided for procedures and specialty areas.
Maintaining a well‑organized sterile setup/field at all times to contribute to smooth operations.
Anticipating and responding timely and efficiently when performing assignments.
Following proper sterile techniques and maintaining a sterile field at all times.
Providing assistance to the circulating RN with procedure/patient preparation.
Maintaining working knowledge of autoclaves to consistently follow proper sterilization methods for selected instruments.
Following the proper procedure for counting of instruments, sponges and sharps.
Checking instrumentation for accuracy prior to procedure for proper functionality and maintaining throughout the procedure.
Ensuring recommended AORN guidelines are followed at all times.
Assisting in positioning patients as needed.
Responding to emergency situations and/or trauma procedures in the OR.
Assisting with clerical OR desk duties after hours by answering phones or taking messages.
Providing assistance to the OR staff with room turnovers to help decrease turnover times.
Responding to overhead pages promptly (within 3 minutes).
Actively participating in departmental improvement activities and staff meetings.
Participating in scheduled procedures and demonstrating competency in multiple service specialties.
Assisting when asked to volunteer for stay‑late or call shifts.
Serving as a preceptor for new team members.
Completing other assigned duties.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Required Experience: 2 years of experience as a Surgical Tech.
Education: Graduate of a Surgical Tech training program.
Special Skills: None.
Licensure: BLS Certification.
