Position Summary The Supervisor, Quality Assurance (QA), is responsible for leading and developing assigned quality team members while providing guidance to cross‑functional teams to ensure compliance with product quality and food safety standards. This role also upholds certification, regulatory, customer, and brand requirements as defined by the business and drives continuous improvement initiatives to meet these standards.
What you’ll do:
Supervise, lead, and motivate a team on the manufacturing floor and QA Lab to deliver results by communicating company goals; including quality and customer satisfaction, safety practices, and deadlines.
Oversee and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with company specifications and regulatory standards. Serve as the program owner by managing documentation, training, and organizational requirements necessary for quality and food safety certifications, while conducting internal audits to verify program effectiveness.
Develop a constructive work environment through excellent interpersonal, team‑building skills, leadership, open communications, encouraging input, and constructive performance management.
Implement continuous improvement methods while maintaining customer focus, and embody company purpose and values to inspire servant leadership.
Create a supportive and collaborative workplace by building strong relationships, fostering teamwork, encouraging open dialogue and input, and applying constructive performance management to drive growth and employee engagement.
Engage and develop teammates through effective performance management, coaching, and training.
Verify activities of Quality Control Technicians including compliance with Gorton’s, U.S. and global food safety standards.
Lead daily product disposition, including positive release and hold programs.
Work with all levels of management in providing expertise, technical support, recommendations, and leadership as it pertains to QA and Food Safety activities.
Lead HACCP, GMP, and BRC program, including updates, verifications, and validation to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
Assist and provide support during audits conducted by internal teams, regulatory agencies, certification bodies, customers, and brand owners.
Evaluate audit findings and implement and/or recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions, ensuring effective closure.
Assist with cross‑functional SOP development and ensure that facility SOPs and related documents are in the correct format, properly stored, and distributed as per manufacturing excellence requirements.
Conduct Root Cause Analysis to solve food safety and quality non‑conformities. Knowledge in the 5Why process is an asset.
Assist in follow‑up and issue any corrective actions, if necessary, based on deviations found in the plant process or resulting from customer complaints.
Ensure that the pest control program is being maintained and liaise with the operation to ensure that all requirements are met.
What you’ll need:
Experience with the implementation and maintenance of a GFSI audit program.
A minimum of 3 years in a QA leadership role within a food manufacturing environment is required.
Knowledge of microbial and aseptic techniques.
Ability to multitask in team development, time management, and effective communication skills.
Highly motivated self‑starter with solid PC skills.
Excellent MS Office/Excel skills.
Strong leadership/team‑building skills.
Strong organizational and well‑developed communication skills.
Lift up to 60 pounds.
Postsecondary degree in a relevant field (preferably Biology or Food Science).
Internal auditor training/certificate.
Seafood HACCP or HACCP certification preferred.
Experience and/or education in continuous improvement, Six Sigma, or lean manufacturing is highly desirable.
