Medical Assistant II Certified – Urgent Care Pembroke & Lumberton

Position Highlights
Locations: Pembroke and Lumberton, NC
Status: Per Diem / Flex Float Pool
Scheduling Commitment: Minimum of 2 shifts per month
About the Role Our ideal candidate has prior urgent care experience and a passion for delivering compassionate, efficient care. The role provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health‑care team members in an outpatient setting, working under the clinical supervision of providers and the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor.
Summary The Medical Assistant II, Certified delivers a range of clinical and administrative tasks, including rooming, intake, phlebotomy, medication administration, and patient education.
Responsibilities
Performs rooming and intake processes, collecting vital signs, height, weight, and data related to patient’s reason for visit.
Collects patient and family data, including medical and social history.
Reviews patient’s medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
Assists the provider during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
Administers medications under provider direction.
Performs tests such as ECG, eye exams, under provider direction.
Reviews patient records to determine if routine health screenings are required.
Ensures exam/procedure rooms contain appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials.
Provides patients with after‑visit, follow‑up, self‑care, or procedural instructions.
Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam and treatment rooms.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
Assists with patient registration, check‑in/check‑out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments.
Answers clinic telephone calls and assists in‑basket under provider or nurse direction.
Assists in emergency situations as directed by provider or nurse.
Additional essential responsibilities of a Certified Medical Assistant II include:
Precepting new medical assistant/credentialed medical assistant hires and externs.
Training other medical assistants in clinic procedures.
Assisting the physician with maintaining preventive health measures for a panel of patients.
Performing clinic‑based quality or safety roles (e.g., clinic safety coordinator, immunization or medication registry, audits).
Managing clinic supply ordering.
Education Requirements
No formal education requirement if other qualifications are met.
Completion of an accredited medical assisting program is strongly preferred but not required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA.
Basic Life Support certification from AHA or ARC required.
Professional Experience Requirements
At least one year of full‑time experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
Demonstration of competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet during application and interview.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
Ability to perform essential functions of the position.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Positive engagement with patients, families, and team members.
Computer proficiency for documenting required information into the electronic medical record.
