Who Are We Looking For?
The Studio Lead Technical Designer is a patternmaker and sewing expert, proactive, collaborative, safety‑minded, detail‑oriented, and comfortable troubleshooting; shares expertise in patternmaking, garment construction and studio equipment; participates in apparel development with product creation teams and is agile in a fluid creative environment, traveling as needed.
The Lead Technical Designer/Studio Lead keeps abreast of market trends, team goals, new technologies and consumer needs, engaging appropriately to ensure projects meet corporate guidelines and goals for all facets of product creation.
What Will You Work On?
Patterning, sample making and fit execution for studio‑supported projects; identify and address opportunities in pattern/ construction/ manufacturing, plan to deliver against the project brief, and track/facilitate project review meetings with OSS leadership.
Providing expertise through developing and leading studio‑based trainings and supporting events in the Apparel Maker Space, Olive St Studio; participate in planning, maintaining studio inventories, assets and assist in equipment use and upkeep.
Who Will You Work With?
Report to the Senior Manager of Olive St Studio.
Collaborate with Design, Product Management, PCC, materials and manufacturing teams to execute product development & fit goals deliverables.
What Will You Bring?
Bachelor’s degree in apparel design, textile science or related field (additional product creation experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
10 years of patternmaking or technical design experience covering apparel development from inception through production.
Expertise in patternmaking, sewing and garment construction.
Strong problem‑solving, organization and communication skills.
Experience interpreting design intent, offering alternative solutions and acting as a technical resource.
Expert in writing product specs and construction standards instructions.
Proficient working with factory vendors to ensure and improve manufacturability.
Ability to manage multiple projects.
Experience with Adobe Illustrator, CAD Pattern Design software (Optitex) and 3D software (Clo/Browzwear) highly desired.
Proficiency with MS Office programs.
Project lead and liaison for all/majority of studio‑supported projects.
Support team with SOP development.
Facilitate workshops, create/write programming for workshops, organize and schedule sewing machine maintenance.
Non‑negotiables: 5‑10 years of advanced pattern making experience, comfortable with sewing and embroidery machines (physical ability to pattern and make products), comfortable with Optitex, flat patterning and Adobe.
Org - Apparel standards team (part of product creation and technical design).
