Job Summary

Job Title: School Secretary

Department or Unit: Assigned School

Reports To: Principal

Supervises: None

Job Summary: To contribute to effective school-public relations by prompt and courteous handling of all inquires and visitors; to assure the smooth and efficient operation of the office.

Typical Duties:

  • Greets all visitors courteously, determines their needs, checks appointments, and directs or escorts them to the proper person.
  • Answers office telephone and responds appropriately to requests for information.
  • Maintains an attractive and comfortable reception area which includes a reading table stocked with current school district publications and periodicals of general interest.
  • Reports immediately the presence in the building of any visitor who bypasses the reception desk or any suspicious activity or unusual behavior on the part of visitors.
  • Performs such other clerical and office duties as required.
  • Takes and transcribes dictation of various types, including correspondence, reports, notices, and recommendations.
  • Maintains a regular filing system, as well as a set of locked confidential files, and processes incoming correspondence as instructed.
  • Orders and maintains supplies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma.
  • Business Education Training.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • At least two years experience as receptionist/secretary.
