Position Overview

RecruitWell is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a hybrid Hospitalist / Emergency Medicine locum assignment at a licensed 25-bed Critical Access Hospital (17 operational beds). This is an autonomous role with full ancillary and telemedicine subspecialty support.

Facility Details

  • Licensed Beds: 25

  • Operational Beds: 17

  • Acute Care: 10

  • Swing Beds: 7

  • ICU: None

  • SNF: None

  • Average Daily Census: 4-6 medical floor patients

  • Average Length of Stay:

  • Acute: 1-3 days

  • Swing: 8-10 days

  • Emergency Department Volume:

  • 6-8 encounters/day

  • 2,500-2,700 visits annually

  • EMR: Thrive software with TruBridge

  • Ancillary Services: Onsite lab and imaging

  • Full radiology suite (excluding nuclear medicine)

    Schedule & Coverage

    • Shifts: 24-hour shifts

    • Call: 24/7 call coverage

    • Rounding:

    • Daily rounding begins at 8:00 AM with interdisciplinary team
      (social worker/case manager, pharmacist, nursing)

    • Weekly swing-bed rounding focused on transitions of care

    Patient Acuity & Case Mix

    • CHF

    • COPD

    • Cellulitis

    • Gastrointestinal conditions

    Subspecialty Support

    • Cardiology - Telemedicine

    • Pulmonology - Telemedicine

    • Infectious Disease - Telemedicine

    Clinics

    • Three clinics total:

    • Two provider-based/RHC clinics

    • One freestanding clinic

  • One clinic attached to the hospital; two located within 12 miles

    • Economy primarily driven by agriculture

    • Major employers include local school systems, Coilcraft, and the hospital

    Experience & Qualifications

    • Minimum 2 years of autonomous practice experience

    • Ability to perform all ED and inpatient procedures

    • NP or PA with appropriate licensure for Iowa

    Credentialing

    • Estimated timeline: 60 days
