Equipment Operator role at Orion Steel

At our CF&I Recycling - Colorado Springs location we are looking for someone who can operate and maintain heavy, motorized equipment for the purpose of unloading and loading ferrous materials in a safe and efficient manner. In conjunction with the scale operator and office staff, you will unload customers and maintain a steady flow in and out of the yard while minimizing traffic congestion.

Job Description and Responsibilities

Operate heavy motorized equipment used in loading/unloading of ferrous material, including, but not limited to, loaders, crane, grapple crane, shear, and other equipment used to support the variety of activities essential to the yard operations.

Perform preventative maintenance as required, including checking all fluids to ensure motorized equipment is properly maintained.

Loads trucks accurately (proper weights), safely, efficiently and communicate via radio to scale personnel for confirmation of material loaded and any issues that may arise.

Unload transports with ferrous materials, safely and efficiently, sweeping trailers of excess material.

Stockpile/sort metals and place them in the designated areas.

Use hand‑held mobile radio devices to effectively coordinate tasks and resources with yard and scale personnel.

Maintain accurate logs and records daily, weekly and monthly and/or as required by supervision.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Completion of high school and/or equivalent.

Minimum of two (2) consecutive years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment within the last three (3) years.

Recognized heavy equipment experience includes operating loaders, excavators, shears, and material handlers.

Valid driver’s license.

Customer focus: takes responsibility for developing excellent customer service, ensuring all purchases are handled professionally and expeditiously.

Communication skills: communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and/or via mobile radio devices.

Ability to push, pull and lift materials up to 50 lbs.

Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Compensation $21 to $26 per hour based upon experience.
