Temporary Park Maintenance

– Dakota County (Temporary, Full-time or Part-time). This posting remains open until all spring/summer positions are filled.

Job Overview Maintenance staff work within the Park System to complete semi-skilled building and ground maintenance tasks, including opening and cleaning of County owned facilities and grounds such as camper cabins, rental facilities, visitor center, and trail head facilities. Staff will also prepare for and take down special events on the park grounds or facilities. Work is independently performed under the direction of a Ground Maintenance Supervisor or Park Keeper staff.

Responsibilities

Perform landscaping work such as shoveling, digging fence posts, mowing lawns, plantings, cutting & removing down trees & branches, and clearing trails.

Cleans and maintain camper cabins, park facilities, grounds, trails, beaches, campgrounds and equipment.

Keeps grounds and facilities neat, clean, safe and sanitary.

Uses tools and supplies required to perform assigned tasks in a safe, efficient manner.

Prepare for and take down special events on the park grounds or in park facilities.

Work is performed under the general direction of a Ground Maintenance Supervisor or Parkkeeper staff. At times maintenance staff may provide general work direction to others.

Reports violation of County Park ordinances to immediate supervisor.

Assist the public and other County staff with requests of assistance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Requires strenuous physical tasks on a daily basis, including lifting and carrying up to 24 pounds frequently, up to 74 pounds occasionally. Work requires frequent sitting, walking, bending/stooping, twisting and continuous reaching forward and push/pulling of objects. Driving is required and staff must have the ability to use a variety of mowers, tractors, pickup trucks, ATVs, UTVs and boats. Exposure may include changing weather conditions, uneven surfaces, dust, dirt, oil, chemicals, solvents, fumes, noise and all hazards associated with an equipment repair shop.

Qualifications

Ability to work outdoors year round under all weather conditions.

Ability to effectively work and communicate with the public, peers and supervisors.

Ability to lift up to 24 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 74 pounds on an occasional basis.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Some knowledge of hand tools and power tools, mowers, ATVs, UTVs.

Basic computer skills.

Some mechanical ability.
