Phlebotomist 2 – Octapharma Plasma, Inc.
Join a fast‑growing organization that values your desire to learn, your passion for helping people, and your commitment to excellence. As a Phlebotomist 2, you will work in our donation centers to support donors while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.
Responsibilities
Ensure total operations comply with state and federal regulations (FDA‑approved SOPs, OSHA, CLIA, GMP) to maintain production standards and facility compliance.
Maintain high levels of customer service and a positive donor experience in line with company values and culture.
Keep work area clean and professional.
Review and confirm donor identification and maintain donor confidentiality per SOP.
Set up and prepare all equipment and disposable supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedures.
Label each unit and sample accurately.
Execute venipunctures and plasma collections, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Operate automated plasmapheresis machines, respond to machine alarms/alerts, address donor adverse events, document exceptions, and perform daily/weekly/monthly calibrations and maintenance.
Monitor donor conditions, employing techniques to ensure donor comfort, safety, and product quality.
Maintain proper donor‑to‑product ratios.
Disconnect donors, manage disposal of biohazard waste and contaminated equipment, and clean spills per safety protocols.
Maintain accurate, thorough documentation, including machine logs.
Report all unsafe situations and conditions to management.
Stock and replenish supplies on plasma carts.
Mentor Phlebotomist I trainees and lead training initiatives as a Designated Trainer.
Troubleshoot machine alarms/alerts and conduct routine QC checks (daily/monthly) and periodic checks (quarterly/annually).
Partner with Quality Assurance on donor floor performance, CAPA implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Perform FIFO tasks as assigned.
Execute other job‑related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma (or GED) required.
State‑required certifications or licensing.
Minimum three (3) months’ experience in a medical or health‑care environment, or equivalent education/experience.
Completed documentation of training for duties before independent work.
Strong customer‑service skills.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal protocol.
Basic computer knowledge and skills.
Accurate and complete documentation ability.
Ability to read and interpret safety regulations and procedural manuals.
Function effectively in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions.
Demonstrated consistency and reliability (attendance, punctuality).
Availability for daytime, evening, weekend, holiday, and extended shifts.
Perform venipuncture.
Effective communication skills.
Enhanced collaboration and adaptability skills.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to 35 pounds.
Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel.
Use all required PPE.
Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
View a video display terminal less than 18 inches from the face for extended periods.
Work up to four hours at a time.
Enter an environment with a temperature of -40°C per SOP.
Perform precise tasks requiring repetitive small motor skills.
Use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
