Posting Details Position Summary Information Position to be Filled FT Coordinator, Fire/Rescue Training (EWD) PVA Number 20-071 Employment Type Full Time (FT) Months Per Year Twelve (12) Months Salary $3,550/monthly Minimum Required Education/Training • Associates Degree • Current certification as a Firefighter Level II and Fire Instructor Level II (Firefighter & Proctor Qualification) with the NC Department of Insurance Fire & Rescue Commission. • School Director qualification. Must obtain within six months of employment if not qualified Minimum Required Experience • Minimum of two years Administrative / Supervisory experience and five years of fire and rescue experience. Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills • Ten years of work experience with fire/rescue training instruction or implementation. • Five years of experience with fire department supervision at Company Officer level. • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. • Proficient in MS Office. Application Deadline Extended Job Description Definition To lead, oversee, and participate in the work of faculty and staff responsible for providing classroom and laboratory instructional services to fire/rescue and emergency management students, and to perform a variety of administrative and technical tasks relative to the Economic & Workforce Development Fire/Rescue Training Program area. Supervision Received/Exercised • Receives general supervision from the Director of Public Safety. • Exercises direct supervision over fire/rescue training instructional faculty and support staff. Essential Functions • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives, establish schedules and methods for providing fire/rescue training programs, implement policies and procedures. • Participate in the administration of the fire/rescue program budget, submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures. • Negotiate and acquire necessary off-campus training facilities as required for fire/rescue courses. • Ensure compliance of the College’s fire/rescue program with state code regarding fire/rescue training. • Monitor and enforce program compliance with laws, rules, and regulations related to safety in fire/rescue classes. • Act as School Director for NC Fire & Rescue programs. • Maintain records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according to program needs, accreditation requirements, and North Carolina Department of Insurance Office of Fire Marshal (NC DOI OSFM ) requirements. • Develop class outlines and establish guidelines for various courses; prepare lesson plans and supplemental teaching materials; schedule classroom activities. • Participate in a variety of student-related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, progress and qualifications for course completion; may participate in recommending graduates for employment and various licensing requirements. • Lead, plan, provide training to, and review the work of faculty responsible for providing classroom instruction and laboratory demonstration services related to fire/rescue courses. • Lead, supervise, plan, provide training to, and review the work of staff responsible for providing administrative support related to fire/rescue courses. • Lead and participate in curriculum development; research and develop new courses and areas of study; participate in systematic program evaluation. • Act as an advisor to students and faculty; participate in student recruitment efforts. • Remain up-to-date with new developments and changes in the fire/rescue field; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other programs as appropriate. • Submit book orders for fire/rescue courses; inventory department equipment and supplies annually. • Evaluate and maintain accurate records to ensure all faculty possess appropriate certifications and qualifications for courses of study offered. • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Other Important Functions • Fill in for other instructors as needed. • May participate in advisory committee meetings in areas that are related to fire/rescue training. • Respond to student, faculty, or public inquiries; provide information within the fire/rescue area; resolve complaints in a timely manner. • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate various text books and select books to be used for future classes. Ability To • Supervise, organize, train and evaluate the work of instructional, technical and clerical personnel. • Coordinate, direct and implement fire/rescue training programs. • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations • Recommend and implement goals, objectives, and practices for providing effective and efficient fire/rescue training programs. • Understand and interpret State Board of Community College codes, policies and procedures. • Administer fire/rescue training program budgets; allocate limited resources in a cost effective manner. • Lead, organize, and review the work of faculty and staff in the fire/rescue area. • Independently perform classroom and laboratory audits of activities in the fire/rescue area. • Research and develop new courses and instructional programs for fire/rescue personnel. • Operate a variety of instructional and office equipment in a safe and effective manner. • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations. • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions. • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing. • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: o Making observations o Reading and writing o Communicating with others o Operating assigned equipment o Handling varied tasks simultaneously • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: o Standing or sitting for extended periods of time o Operating assigned equipment o Handling varied tasks simultaneously o Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds o Traveling to various work locations • Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of: o Making sound decisions o Responding to questions o Demonstrating intellectual capabilities Posting Specific Questions
