Geology Trainee

– Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Job posting for the Geology Trainee role. This position is full-time and unclassified. Overview

The Kansas Dry Cleaning Program leads the cleanup of contaminated dry cleaners at the State level with complexities ranging from simple to Superfund-level. KDHE conducts project management for sites where investigation and remediation occur, under the supervision of the licensed Professional Geologist Unit Manager. Position Summary & Responsibilities

The position (K0227978) serves as a KDHE Project Manager for projects at Dry Cleaning sites as assigned, coordinating and performing elements of the investigative, monitoring and remedial processes. Responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating work plans and reports for completeness and technical accuracy, interacting with consultants and the public to review, present and negotiate all aspects of project management, and ensuring work plans, field sampling plans, QA/QC plans, and applicable guidance are followed within timeframes. Activities are documented through written correspondence with project stakeholders and may involve coordination with other Bureau staff and governmental entities. Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Prepare, review, and/or evaluate technical work plans, sampling programs, proposals and reports for investigations and remedial actions; analyze geological, environmental and technical data to solve site-specific problems and identify data gaps. Follow Agency guidance and quality management plans; document reviews through written communications with involved parties. Communicate in writing and verbally with clients, consultants, and the public; handle projects of varying complexity. Qualifications

Education : High School, GED Licensing & Certification : Valid Driver's License (required to operate state/vehicle or other vehicle for the State’s benefit) Minimum Qualifications : 4 years direct experience in natural science Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Proofreading, editing, attention to detail Preferred Qualifications : Masters in Geology/Hydrogeology/Earth Science/Geoscience or related field Graduate work in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental/Earth/Natural Science Experience with sampling of environmental media Verbal presentations, ArcGIS Experience in collection and interpretation of soil, sediment, groundwater and surface water samples Experience with remediation of volatile organic compounds Experience in preparing and/or reviewing soil and groundwater assessment reports Experience in project management of environmental assessments and remediation Ability to use personal protective equipment Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements : Must pass a physical to work in necessary PPE; position may require progress toward professional Geologist licensure.
