Summary National Power is accepting applications to fill a Generator Service Technician opening in our Stockton, CA, market. Under the general direction of and reporting to the Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform various types and levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5-5000kw. Troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches, including bypass isolation and closed transition types. Perform preventative maintenance services (oil, filters), troubleshoot AC and DC circuits, remove and replace components, perform warranty work per manufacturer’s guidelines, and conduct start-up/commissioning on new generators and generator systems.

Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair, including ignition components, injection systems, valve adjustments, etc.

Perform load bank testing on generators to ensure units are in proper operating conditions and meet applicable code requirements.

Assist other technicians with large multi-person jobs or troubleshooting complicated issues.

Education and Experience

HS Diploma required; Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred.

Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred.

US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator and/or UPS field service technician preferred.

Skills and Other Qualifications

Excellent communication skills; ability to give verbal and written reports of job status, repair recommendations, and equipment/supplies needed.

Accurate time accounting for jobs and travel.

Excellent driving record and valid driver’s license. The job requires driving long distances and overnight stays in hotels.

Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF tools.

Works from home, maintains vehicle and required parts inventory, and secures company property such as cell phone, laptop, and tools.

Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs and solicits feedback to improve service.

Problem-solving during emergency situations or limited-resource scenarios.

Training will be provided and may include travel to training locations such as Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and a commitment to improving quality and safety.

Work Conditions

Work may be required in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, high humidity, etc.).

Frequently work near moving mechanical parts.

Physical Demands

Lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 lbs.

Ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and ramps.

Seizing, holding, grasping, and turning with hands and arms.

Operational use of computers or keyboards for data entry.

Pushing or pulling with hands, arms, or feet.

Movement on hands and knees or hands and feet to enter restricted or confined spaces.

Using feet or legs to operate machinery controls such as pedals, buttons, levers, and cranks.

Clarity of vision for small objects or reading small print, including computer use.

Sitting for long periods of time.

Compensation

Competitive pay based on experience and certifications; overtime at 1.5 X base.

Three weeks of paid vacation after 90 days (first year prorated).
