Husbandry Technician
Description of Work:
Primary duties for this position include coverage responsibilities for the Aquarium’s full-time husbandry staff. The husbandry technician will be responsible for assisting aquarists and a horticulturalist in a variety of tasks revolving around the care and maintenance of the many fish, invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, and plants at the Aquarium. The typical schedule for this position is a Tuesday through Saturday work week. Weekend and holiday work will be a large component of this position.
The position will perform the following essential functions:
Public speaking and interacting with visitors.
Working in hot, humid, and wet conditions.
Climbing ladders, swimming, and bending up and down.
Lifting as much as 50 lbs.
Possessing a valid driver’s license.
A degree in one of the natural sciences such as aquaculture, fisheries management, biology, marine biology, ecology, chemistry or a similar area of study or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred.
Management Prefers
Experience with aquatic animal husbandry including cleaning, food preparation and feeding, and/or maintaining life support systems.
Experience with database record keeping.
Minimum Education and Experience: High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience as related to the knowledge, skills, and abilities in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
$16.00 per hour
