Position Overview The primary responsibility of the Building Materials Driver is to drive a truck and to deliver products to construction sites. This occurs in a variety of settings and conditions including commercial, industrial and residential sites. The driver must operate on uneven ground, complete the delivery and interact effectively with customers. The driver is also responsible for the general upkeep of the facility, operator maintenance of the truck, fueling and assistance with other duties as needed. The role fosters teamwork, a positive work environment and overall safety for the driver and others.
Key Responsibilities
Safely drive a building materials truck to sites as directed, obeying all applicable laws and following dispatch instructions.
Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of equipment to ensure safe operational order and report maintenance issues (Operator Level Maintenance).
Ensure the quality and accuracy of being loaded and delivered.
Climb in and out of equipment safely using proper 3‑point contact and work at heights.
Complete written reports of any issues or necessary repairs and forward them to maintenance team; detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions.
Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
Certify and operate other equipment such as forklift or loader as needed.
Follow and promote all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
Maintain an acceptable attendance record in a flexible work schedule.
Maintain strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures at all times.
Perform other related duties as required or directed.
Travel and work from other company facilities as needed.
Exhibit a professional attitude while interacting with peers, contractors and the general public.
Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty to Preferred Materials Inc. guidelines.
Education / Experience
Two years of commercial vehicle driving experience preferred.
Work Requirements
Must possess a valid and current Florida Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License or equivalent.
Must pass pre‑employment physical, drug screen, criminal background check and driving record review.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Must drive a manual and automatic transmission.
Strong commitment to safety.
Regular and timely attendance required.
Regularly climb up and down into or out of the cab of the vehicle and the rear ladder during loading, unloading and vehicle wash down.
Stand for long periods performing loading and off‑loading of materials in hot weather or current conditions.
Knowledge / Skill Requirements
Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Communicate verbally and in writing effectively.
Use basic hand tools.
Physical Requirements
Regular climbing on trucks, forklifts, stairs or other fixed or mobile equipment; use all hand and foot holds to mount and dismount; no limitation or restriction.
Operation of directional, speed and operational controls on all trucks and equipment operated.
