Position: Yard Hostler Part Time
Job Location: Salisbury, NC
Starting Rate: Hourly rate $20+ (based on skills and experience)
Flexible part-time hours on weekdays Mon - Fri between 7am and 4pm
Additional availability for Saturday shift is required
Average 20-25 hours per week

Job Summary Hostler/Switchers will be required to dock trailers at the distribution centers, and move trailers around the yard for optimum efficiency and performance in a timely and professional manner. Trailer movements include company owned trailers as well as trailers from our vendor partners. Distribution center hours vary and require coverage during operational hours.
Job Role Hostlers/Switchers provide safe professional service and represent Fort Worth Carrier Corporation in the best possible public image. Hostlers/Switchers move and transfer merchandise trailers. Hostlers/Switchers role includes transporting, organizing, safety, communication, other routine duties, and reporting incidents timely. Transporting merchandise requires hostlers/switchers to be skilled in the operation of a yard truck, while documenting all movements in the electronic data system provided. As with any organization last minute trailer changes may be necessary based on the needs of the company and the rapidly changing demands of the organization.
Essential Functions
Transporting
Daily movement of trailers around the yard
Daily docking of trailers into dock doors as required
Drop and hook trailers at predetermined locations on the yard based on contents
Moving trailers in a confined environment
Organizing
Organize trailers on the lot Ready Line
Continual movement of trailers to ensure optimum space is utilized
Move converter dollies as required
Safety
Visual check of trailers lights, tire pressure, airline pressure, trailer seals and locks
Ensure trailer doors are securely closed and locked
Secure trailer king pin for transport, releasing king pin for trailer drop
Initiate repair requests, note damages and include use of red tags if necessary
Verify trailer status prior to moving
Participate in monthly or quarterly training as required
Communication
Communicate safety concerns immediately
Communicate damage and breakdowns timely
Proficient and efficient communications with dispatch and receiving office to determine trailer movements
Other Routine Duties
Performs routine fueling for yard trucks
Requires use of electronic data systems
Capable to recognize, process, read and enter numerical information
Required to accurately and efficiently operate and update yard management computer system
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to organize and prioritize
Ability to navigate obstacles to dock trailers as required
Ability to blindside park
Ability to read and communicate with English verbal skills
Ability to meet deadlines and maintain schedule
Ability to communicate with 2 way radio transmission
Job Requirements
Requires a Class C License.
Must be able to pass Physical and drug/alcohol screen.
Stable and verifiable work history with at least 1 year yard truck experience required.
Night driving vision is required.
Reliable transportation to and from work is a must.
Functional communications devices (IE telephone, mobile phone, etc.) are required for all Hostlers/Switchers for communication.
Weekends are required.
