SUMMARY Under the direction of the building principal, special education teacher, and Supervisor of Special Education, the Special Education Paraprofessional will assist with the educational development of children with special needs by ways of one-on-one instructional and non-instructional support.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be willing to become CPR certified

Non-violent crisis training (CPI) certification preferred

Associates Degree or MDE approved testing

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with students with emotional impairments, cognitive impairments, and/or physical disabilities, or equivalent experience

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide non-instructional support of student

Assist in supervision of students

Provide academic, one to one support for student

Provide individual and small group instruction, when applicable

Demonstrate initiative and creativity with student(s) and their program

Provide non-instructional health and behavior support of student as outlined in IEP, including any personal care needs

Adhere to district health and safety procedures

Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the principal and/or supervisor

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; stand; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. Employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
