The Fleet Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a 53-foot tractor/trailer to transport supplies and materials required for production. This position supports two primary functions: shuttle driving between company facilities to maintain production flow and local delivery/pick-up within a 100-air-mile radius of Oceanside, CA. Drivers will return equipment to the manufacturing facility daily and are expected to maintain vehicle cleanliness, monitor tractor and tractor compliance and functionality, and ensure equipment readiness for use.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Abide by assigned schedule, establish routes, and arrive on time for pickup and delivery appointments.
Execute delivery and pick-up of goods accurately based on dispatch details.
Comply with all CHP and DOT rules and regulations.
Perform pre- and post-trip inspections, complete DVIRs, maintain accurate driver logs, and ensure cabs, windows, windshields, and mirrors are clean at all times.
Communicate promptly with dispatch regarding arrivals, delays, or incidents during routes.
Adapt to last-minute changes in schedule and priorities.
Slip-seat equipment with other drivers as needed.
Maintain cleanliness of trailers and tractor, including sweeping and removing debris.
Occasionally lift products weighing up to 40 lbs, crouch, and push/pull pallet jacks.
Adhere to SOP, SSOP, GMP, and HACCP guidelines when inside the plant.
Shuttle equipment to/from Penske for maintenance and repairs.
Shuttle equipment between company owned warehouses to support warehouse operations and production schedule.
Maintain cleanliness of food-grade warehouse and yard environment.
Regular and reliable attendance.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications Education:
Valid Class A CDL issued by one state or jurisdiction.
Minimum of 9 months Class A CDL experience within the last 24 months, with at least 6 consecutive months.
Experience:
Experience operating manual transmission required.
Experience with reefer trailers preferred but not required.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with DOT regulations, CHP compliance, and safe driving practices.
Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and inspection procedures.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and speak English to communicate with team members and customers, understand traffic signs/signals, respond to official inquiries, and complete reports.
Other Skills:
Ability to follow precise directions and adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
Other Abilities:
Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Must pass DOT medical exam and drug test.
Major Business/Professional Contacts:
Regular contact with corporate cross‑functional partners, manufacturing team members, and leadership team. Occasional contact with vendors.
Working and Environmental Conditions:
Must live within 25 miles of Oceanside, CA.
Work performed in outdoor environments (including rain and wind) and indoor environments (temperature‑controlled, cold/freezer warehouses).
Frequent travel between company facilities and local customer sites.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged sitting and standing, including extended time behind the steering wheel.
Frequent use of phone and text communication when stationary and safe.
Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. and equipment up to 20 lbs.
Ability to operate manual transmission tractors and maneuver 53' reefer and dry trailers.
