Long Term Substitute - Elementary Education Teacher
Salem City Schools is searching for a long-term substitute for the 2025-2026 school year, beginning February 2026. Applicants must possess a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Elementary Education.

Responsibilities and Job Summary Perform teaching services in specialized or general elementary subjects, assisting students to develop knowledge and skills. Provide a flexible instructional program, maintain standards of behavior, deliver lesson plans, integrate technology, evaluate progress, communicate with students, parents, teachers, participate in committees, attend PTAs, administer tests, and perform related tasks as required.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials
Translate lesson plans into learning experiences
Integrate subject area content and technology
Instruct students in subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
Establish and maintain standards of behavior
Adapt teaching materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students
Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions
Encourage students to think independently, develop, and express original ideas
Evaluate students' progress, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports
Communicate with students, student counselors, and parents through conferences and other means
Maintain professional competence through in-service education and self-selected professional books and instructional materials
Select and requisition books and instructional materials
Participate in curriculum development programs, faculty committees, and student activity sponsorship as required
Attend Parent Teacher Association meetings
Identify student needs and assist with assessment of needs
Administer group standardized tests in accordance with established procedures
Perform related tasks as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of subjects taught; education principles, practices, and procedures; teaching methodology; and school division rules, regulations, and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents; operate a personal computer.
Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university holding an appropriate Virginia teaching license.
