Job Summary Job Summary:
The Student Office Assistant is an administrative position that assists in the daily operations of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities including but not limited to tasks related to customer service and general desk/office work.
Required Qualifications
Basic computer skills including but not limited to knowledge of Windows applications, e‑mail, mail merge, and internet
Strong oral and written communication including telephone etiquette, proofreading and editing skills
Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with students, faculty/staff, and other constituents
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction
Dependable and punctual
Capable of managing multiple tasks at one time and prioritizing things appropriately
Available for at least 8 hours of work per week between 8am and 5pm Monday - Friday
Job Responsibilities & Skill Development Students employed in this role will develop and demonstrate a number of transferable skills essential for future employment success. Key skills and responsibilities associated with this position include:
Provide information and answer questions about our office’s procedures and policies over the phone and in person
Greet visitors and students
Answer phone calls, transfer calls, and take messages
Manage the OSRR office e‑mail account
Schedule and cancel appointments using Outlook
Scan, fax, and make copies of various documents
Create and maintain files in Maxient
Prepare files for various constituents
Distribute mail
Assist office staff with various project work
Keep the front office area clean and orderly
Maintain confidentiality of student records
Other office and administrative work as needed
This position is an on-campus in Schleman Hall on Purdue's West Lafayette Campus with an opportunity to continue through future semesters at Purdue. Interviews for this posting will begin as early as January 5, 2026 and will remain open until filled.
