Duties & Responsibilities
Design novel scaffolds and plan efficient, scalable synthetic routes.
Synthesize and purify target compounds; troubleshoot challenging synthetic steps.
Characterize compounds by NMR, LC/HRMS, HPLC, IR and related methods.
Analyze Structure-activity-relationships and collaborate with biology/computation to prioritize next cycles.
Contribute to biochemical/biophysical assay planning and data interpretation.
Maintain rigorous notebooks; present results; assist with manuscripts and proposals.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry (by start date)
Demonstrated expertise in synthetic route design and complex molecule synthesis
Proficiency with NMR, LC/HPLC, MS, IR and data analysis for structural elucidation
Design, synthesis, and biological characterization of novel lead compounds to develop drug candidates in treating various types of diseases
Familiarity with computational chemistry and structure-based molecular design
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a postdoctoral fellow at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with GPCR-focused programs and small-molecule hit-to-lead workflows.
Exposure to biochemical/biophysical assays (binding/functional) and ADME-relevant considerations.
Exposure to basic animal handling.
Track record of publications and effective cross-disciplinary collaboration.
