Responsibilities

Assist in preparing and serving daily meals to students, staff and visitors.

Help the Food Service Manager prepare menus, food items, trays and maintain kitchen inventory.

Wash and clean cooking equipment, utensils and kitchen areas.

Ensure health, safety, and sanitation practices are followed and maintain compliance with USDA guidelines.

Assist with meal count, inventory tracking and procurement of food items and supplies.

Perform deep cleaning of kitchen equipment, counters, ovens, refrigerators, etc., as per schedule.

Attend training and workshops on nutrition and food service practices.

Assist in preparing a list and shopping for food items and supplies.

Assist students and staff with meal‑related tasks and maintain proper storage of food items.

Stand, walk, lift (up to 50 lbs), and use hands and arms as required.

Perform other duties related to the food services program as required.

Follow written and oral instructions and safety procedures.

Use cleaning equipment and supplies safely.

Maintain cleanliness, sanitation and personal hygiene standards.

Build and maintain effective working relationships.

Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.

Understand food service line set‑up and temperature requirements.

Cook and prepare various foods from fresh, canned, dry or frozen.

Know cleaning and sanitation methods for food service environments.

Understand food storage methods.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Current Food Handler’s Card.

Current First Aid/CPR Card.

Pass pre‑employment drug test and background/fingerprint check.

No history of child abuse and neglect; no history of drug or alcohol abuse.

Submit recent medical/physical examination document.

Minimum of two years of successful work experience as a cook, or related education that may substitute.

Valid Washington State Driver’s License; ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving Permit.

Enrolled Yakama Preference applicants encouraged; all qualified applicants must apply.

Preferred Requirements

Certificate or degree in Culinary Arts from an accredited institution.
