Position Summary This position provides students and their families with customer-oriented assistance in matters such as understanding and handling their financial responsibilities and documents, attendance issues, grades as they progress through their enrollment.
Responsibilities
The Student Advisor's number one priority is student retention and satisfaction, which is monitored through reports and surveys, as well as face-to-face interaction with students and staff (including instructors)
Enter notes in the computer system to back up all handwritten documentation for SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) failure, Leave of Absence requests, withdrawals and information explaining reasons for a student’s absence
Monitor student attendance daily, make calls to find out the reasons for a student’s absences and encourage students to attend while emphasizing the importance of satisfactory attendance in order to graduate
Schedule, organize and inform students of meetings with the Appeals Committee
Schedule students' meetings with the Reinstatement Committee
Serve as backup to Registrar for posting grades, attendance, and status changes
Additional duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Education and Experience
Associate's degree preferred, or a minimum of two years of related experience and/or training
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including problem-solving and decision-making skills
Ability to maintain a positive attitude and strong student focus to inspire, engage, and coach potential students
Proven self-starter who continually pursues learning opportunities
