Position Summary Freeman Enclosure Systems is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Wet Painter to join our manufacturing team in Batavia, Ohio. The Wet Painter will be responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing metal enclosures and components using wet paint application methods. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of industrial painting processes, and a commitment to quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities Painting & Finishing
Apply primers, topcoats, and specialty coatings to metal parts using spray guns and other wet painting equipment.
Ensure all products are painted to company standards, customer specifications, and industry requirements.
Adjust spray guns and equipment to achieve proper coverage, thickness, and finish quality.
Surface Preparation
Clean, sand, mask, and prepare surfaces prior to painting.
Inspect fabricated parts for defects, rust, or contamination before coating.
Perform minor touch-ups and rework as needed.
Quality Control
Measure wet and dry film thickness using inspection tools.
Visually inspect finished parts for runs, sags, color inconsistencies, or imperfections.
Document paint batches, materials used, and job completion details.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
Operate spray booths, ventilation systems, and related painting equipment safely.
Mix paints, catalysts, and solvents according to manufacturer instructions.
Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of spray guns, hoses, and painting areas.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all plant safety procedures, including PPE, hazard communication, and proper material handling.
Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with OSHA and facility standards.
Dispose of paints, solvents, and waste materials according to environmental regulations.
Minimum Education High School
Minimum Years of Experience 0-2
Qualifications
Prior experience as a wet painter, industrial painter, or automotive refinisher preferred.
Knowledge of paint mixing, viscosity control, and paint application techniques.
Ability to read job travelers, production schedules, and paint specifications.
Familiarity with industrial paint booths and spray systems.
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet quality standards.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Pass background check, drug/alcohol screening, and maintain clean driving record.
Preferred Skills
Experience painting metal fabrications, enclosures, or industrial parts.
Knowledge of epoxy, polyurethane, and enamel coatings.
Understanding of film thickness gauges and inspection methods.
Work Environment
Manufacturing environment with exposure to paint fumes, solvents, and airborne particles.
Use of PPE including respirators, protective suits, gloves, and eye protection required.
Fast-paced production environment with teamwork and daily deadlines.
