Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Security Guard II - Full Time, Nights – Security – 12:00 AM – 08:00 AM Rotating Schedule/Weekends. In this role, the successful candidate patrols hospital buildings and grounds, holds post on an assigned shift protecting patients, visitors, volunteers, employees, and property. Responds to hospital emergencies and provides staff support on access control and special activities as required.

Job Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned.

Greets patients, visitors, and employees and responds to inquiries in a courteous and prompt manner. Identifies self by name clearly and concisely if requested. Provides directions to visitors as needed. Refers matters outside the scope of own duties to appropriate others, keeping patients and others informed as needed.

Protects and safeguards various hospital properties and installations, as assigned. Patrols surrounding areas to ensure orderliness of the environment i.e., locks and/or opens doors, secures restricted areas, checks fire hoses, stairwells, etc. in accordance with procedure. Operates and/or monitors various security systems (alarms, TV surveillance, access control, digital recording, photo processing, CCTV). Maintains the Identification Card system and distribution process, updating existing employee access levels. Provides security escorts as directed.

Observes visitors, answers questions, and investigates reported losses, suspicious and/or unusual situations in a courteous and efficient manner. Escorts unruly or unauthorized personnel from hospital premises in a tactful and professional manner. May require restraining skills to appropriate subdue violators and/or emotionally disturbed individuals. Prepares and submits appropriate incident reports to supervisor.

Explains hospital security policies and procedures to visitors, staff, etc. as necessary. Assists other departments in controlling visitor traffic as required. Maintains hospital package control policy in accordance with established procedure.

Responds promptly to fire alarms and other emergencies using established communication systems in accordance with procedure. Unlocks doors, directs immediate and affected population to a safe area, assists fire brigade or appropriate others in a timely and efficient manner.

Detains law violators and represents the hospital in legal cases as necessary. May be required to testify as complainant for the hospital on related cases. Prepares appropriate legal documents on such cases. Directs traffic, guards celebrities, and official police ceremonies, etc. as assigned. May drive hospital vehicles.

Stays highly visible as a deterrence to crime.

Patrols assigned areas of the facility and grounds on foot.

Verbally confronts or questions any unauthorized individuals on hospital grounds.

Responds to all calls regarding security related issues.

Responds to all security incidents and potential security incidents as notified by hospital personnel.

Takes control of all security incidents and potential security incidents as needed, bringing them to a safe and rapid conclusion.

Directs and monitors vehicle traffic in and around the hospital to maintain a safe environment.

Maintains traffic control when needed during emergency situations to allow for emergency vehicles to enter and egress the grounds.

Directs employees, patients, and visitors to all appropriate areas of the hospital.

Assists patients with special needs to enter or egress the facility as needed.

Escorts employees, patients, and visitors to the hospital parking lot when requested.

Directs patients and visitors to waiting areas of the hospital to prevent blocking open areas and hallways.

Takes initiative and corrects safety issues as discovered to prevent potential injury and communicates them to the Security Manager.

Performs related general office and record keeping tasks including daily log, incident reports, missing property, and other reports requested by the Security Manager.

Minimum Qualifications To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent. 1-2 years of law‑enforcement operations from an Accredited Law Enforcement Academy. Current and valid NYS Security Guard License. Current and valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire). Current and valid Crisis Prevention/Intervention (CPI) certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire). Strong communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $66,682.95 - $66,682.95 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
