FUNCTION Responsible for equine care, upkeep and maintenance of the equestrian center. Ensures all programs and services are fulfilled in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of Brays Island Plantation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Feeding, watering and turning out up to 80 horses daily.
Cleaning stalls, barn, interways and other equestrian facilities daily.
Providing exceptional customer service to owners, guests and internal and external partners.
Assisting grooms with various barn chores when needed.
Picking hooves and checking all horses.
Using the communication log and chores list and signing off on both.
Putting on blankets, fly spray, fly sheets and mask.
Grooming, tacking and untacking a horse as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Capable of working extended hours, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
Ability to drive a truck with a valid S.C. driver’s license and transport to and around the plantation.
Visual acuity sufficient to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
Proficiency in speaking English clearly and understandably for various communications.
Capacity to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, push, shove, lift, carry and move objects up to 80 lbs. throughout the day.
Capability to operate a personal computer, printer, facsimile machine, telephone typewriter and other routine business items.
Capable of driving a truck with the various trailers on Brays Island.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Work both indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather conditions.
Ability to handle multiple assignments with interruptions, changes and delays while meeting daily deadlines, remaining focused and cheerfully efficient.
Work effectively in potentially stressful environments due to adversarial situations inherent in duties.
Exposure to site‑specific vegetation, native reptiles and mammals, with potential for injury from contact or bites; proper footwear, headgear and maintenance attire required.
Working around large animals; constant alert to animal behaviors and wearing protective footwear.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:
High school graduate or ability to obtain high school diploma or equivalent of education and experience.
Knowledge:
Prior knowledge of equestrian center programs helpful.
Skills:
Highly effective interpersonal skills, problem solving abilities and advanced communication skills are a plus.
Experience:
1-2 years working in a stable environment preferred.
Personality:
Must interact effectively with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented with good reasoning skills.
