Job Summary Responsible for the overall floor maintenance of hard surface and carpet (stripping, waxing, buffing, shampooing, extraction & bonneting) in areas including offices, patient rooms, classrooms, corridors, lobbies, entrances, stairwells, cafeterias, and other public areas. Additional tasks include dusting surfaces, emptying waste baskets, damp wiping furniture, cleaning and polishing metal and porcelain fixtures, mopping and sanitizing floors, spot‑cleaning walls and windows, replenishing room supplies, performing discharge cleaning, vacuuming carpets, and handling heavier cleaning functions in assigned areas. Floor technicians must work with minimal supervision, follow project schedules, and minimize disruption to clinical areas.
Additional Responsibilities
Sign in and out for pager/phone (if applicable)
Follow pager/phone protocols
Follow personal protective equipment procedures
Transport waste from dirty core
Cycle cleaning ceilings and walls
Measure and mix cleaning chemicals
Assist in cleaning emergency spills
Report customer suggestions/complaints to supervisor
Clean and sanitize assigned work area
Attend mandatory hospital and department scheduled meetings/in‑services
Adhere to specific hospital and department policies
May be assigned to other duties as needed
Experience Required
1–2 years experience in floor care (preferred)
Education Requirements
High School or GED
License/Certification Requirements
Ability to maintain and operate special floor care equipment, including side‑by‑side orbital machine, carpet extractor, floor burnisher, and auto scrubber
Effective communication skills with consideration for patients, staff, and visitors
