POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Y Excel Youth Director, the Y LearningTeacher will lead academic interventions for individuals and small groups in the Y Learning Intervention After School program. The Teacher will be responsible for the day-to-day planning, preparing and leading of lessons, as well as pre and post assessments for all students in the Y Learning Intervention Program.

They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Utilizing pre-selected curriculum, the Y Learning Intervention Teacher plans, prepares and teaches literacy and math lessons to individual and small groups of children in Y Learning Intervention Programs.

Plans, prepares and teaches lessons on character development/21st century skills and executive functioning using pre-selected curriculum.

Ensures that students are receiving the correct dosage of academic interventions weekly.

Administers pre and post assessments for each student and turns assessments into the Y Excel Youth Director in a timely manner.

Connects periodically with classroom teacher to receive feedback and guidance on best approaches to use with each student

Maintains strong communication with Y Excel Youth Director to ensure that challenges are addressed in a timely manner and that all needed resources are available in order to follow through on expectations.

Adheres to established program Standard Operating Procedures as well as program quality and fidelity standards.

Attends staff meetings and trainings including those required by the Association Resource Center Y Excel team.

Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree preferred with a minimum of 1 year of teaching experience working within an academic setting.

K-6 elementary teaching certification required.

Proven ability to lead groups of children effectively, manage classroom behavior, and create a positive, structured environment.

Passion for fostering academic, social, and emotional growth in elementary-aged children through creative and supportive programming.

Capable of working closely with parents, school staff, and program teams to support student development and program success.

Comfortable adjusting plans and approaches to meet the dynamic needs of students and the program environment.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Multi-lingual is a plus.

Must be able to provide valid identification for employment eligibility verification.

Must have access to reliable transportation.

Travel between branch locations or off-site meetings and events may be required as needed.
