Groundskeeper - 5072
HES Facilities Management is recruiting a Groundskeeper for Danville, VA (United States). Full-time, 1st Shift. Salary: $12.00 – $18.50 per hour. Number of openings: 1. Reports to the Director of Facilities and Assistant Director of Facilities.

Job Description The Groundskeeper is responsible for producing quality landscape service that meets or exceeds the standards of clients and management. Key duties include:
Prepare trucks for the day
Load gas cans, mowers, and other equipment onto company trucks/trailers
Secure all equipment
Perform groundskeeping on properties: mow turf, line trim, edge, sweep leaves, prune shrubs and trees, remove debris, pull weeds, clean site
Operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, twin‑axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain‑saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, pruning saws
Shovel snow from walkways, driveways, and parking lots and spread salt
Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, removing thatch, trimming, and edging around flower beds, walkways, and walls
Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges using hand tools
Seeding and applying erosion control blankets, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides; watering and grooming plants, seeds, sod, and bulbs
Maintain sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, and other ground features
Prepare soil for flower or groundcover installation and install plants and flowers
Perform maintenance on equipment: wash equipment and truck, repair tools and structures (fences, benches, etc.)
Snow removal (must be available nights, weekends, and holidays)

Minimum Qualifications
High school degree preferred
Some experience in lawn care helpful
Must be able to operate various lawn care machinery (mowers, edgers, backpack blowers)
Skills

Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
Problem‑solving ability
Self‑starting, follows directions, adheres to work schedule, focuses on details
Self‑motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision
Flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment, maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor with coworkers, clients, and vendors
Physical and Working Conditions
Heavy lifting, pushing, pulling of landscaping equipment and materials (up to 80 lbs. on mower, 50 lbs. carry, etc.)
Lifts shovels full of snow, branches, limbs
Pushes, pulls, grips, and squeezes tools and equipment
Walks up to 10 miles a day, sometimes uphill and on uneven terrain with equipment
Bends and kneels for 6+ hours a day
Use of hand saw
Work hours vary up to 12 hours per day
Work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation)
Noise level may be loud; ear plugs may be required
