Variable Hour Zookeeper
The Zookeeper performs duties to maintain animals and facilities of the City Zoo, ensuring animal health, welfare, public safety and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain animals and facilities, including feeding, cleaning enclosures, observing behaviors, enrichment, training participation, safety and security. Maintain zoo facilities, enclosures, and grounds: seasonal maintenance, landscaping, trimming, weed control, snow removal, and minor repairs. Provide customer service: answer questions, give tours, presentations, and demonstrations. Assist veterinarians with medical care, capturing, sedating, medicating animals, as directed. Maintain records, documents, logs, and prepare reports. Manage inventory of food, supplies, medications, and equipment; order and reconcile deliveries. Direct and train part‑time/seasonal employees, volunteers, and work‑study students. Perform cashiering and cash handling; reconcile receipts daily. Perform other duties as assigned; management may reassign responsibilities. Acceptable Experience, Training, Licenses and Certifications
High school diploma or GED; Associate's degree in biology, animal sciences, or related field preferred. Idaho driver’s license required. Certifications by federal or state agencies may be required, depending on assignment. Two (2) years of zoo or animal husbandry experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge
Animal behavior, health and welfare in a zoo environment. Zoo operation policies, procedures and protocols. Federal and state statutes governing wild/exotic animal keeping. Medical evaluation techniques: capture, sedation, medication, treatment. Building and grounds maintenance and landscaping. Customer service methods and objectives. Cash handling, accounting, employee training. Inventory maintenance and drug disposal regulations. OSHA and city safety regulations for janitorial equipment, power tools. Basic office equipment, personal computer, software applications. Skills and Abilities

Inventory management and ordering. Training employees and volunteers. Cash handling and reconciliation. Minor maintenance and repair of exhibits.
