$23.77 - $26.00 Hourly Purpose of Classification: The purpose of this classification is to provide mentoring and team leader support to head start staff members while creating a warm and nurturing learning environment, observing staff performance, establishing plans for staff improvement, and cultivating teaching methods of staff members. Essential Functions: Performs teacher mentoring duties: establishes a working relationship with teaching staff and site administrators in order to provide feedback by observing classroom activities, modeling/mentoring teaching activities, and conducting meetings and trainings; assists in the annual review of education plans, curriculum, and policies and procedures. Serves as an advisor to staff needing professional development assistance: assists Child Development Associate (CDA) candidates and renewals and maintains the Professional Development Credential with the Council for Professional Development; provides resources, strategies, and self-evaluation tools to support teacher development; assists in the planning and providing of in-service training and job-related workshops for teachers. Assists agency in the completion of mandated child assessments: trains and assists teaching staff with classroom arrangement and management and with completion of screenings and assessments for all students during the school year; provides strategies for working with challenging children; reviews and monitors children’s records, assessments, and daily activity plans; ensures the safety and wellbeing of the children while in the classroom. Provides documentation of observations, meetings, trainings, monthly reports, and various other documents to teaching staff, site administrators, and curriculum specialists; inputs data into the agency computer system; utilizes spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and desktop publishing. Engages in ongoing professional development and training to keep up with best practices and certification requirements, including education and care services for children with special needs; attends meetings as required and serves as a spokesperson and advocate for the Head Start programs. Additional Functions: Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, General Education, Special Education, or related field required; supplemented by two years of work experience working with preschool-age children; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
