Internal applicants MUST attach a signed Permission to Coach Form to application.
ATHELIC COACHING LICENSE, 7-12: Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License from the New Mexico Public Education Department, as well as completing the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
Qualifications
Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).
Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
Continual examination of new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
Responsibilities / Job Goal To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. Continuous up‑grading of knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultations.
Work with students interested in sports, provide necessary practice support and advice for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season. Teach and enforce rules and regulations. The position involves work on evenings and weekends.
Reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
Work Environment: On‑site attendance is mandatory.
Supervises: Advises, coordinates, and supports a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
