What You’ll Be Doing (Key Objectives)
Prepare diets & feed a variety of marine and freshwater animals
Help maintain and clean aquatic exhibits & back‑of‑house areas
Keep accurate daily records on animal health & aquarium systems
Assist with water quality testing
Support routine husbandry and care for displays
Deliver fun, educational guest talks & presentations
Interact with guests to share ocean knowledge & inspire conservation
Assist with the development and improvement of display areas
Act as a tender for SCUBA dives (no diving required)
Meet AZA & Merlin safety and animal care standards
Your Key Responsibilities
Backstage cleaning & maintenance
Diet prep & feeding routines
Helping keep displays safe, clean, and engaging
Engaging with guests during interactive programs
Supporting long‑term improvements across the aquarium
Health & Safety
Follow Health & Safety procedures
Report hazards or risks promptly
Ensure safe operations in all exhibit & guest areas
Help maintain compliance with Merlin Entertainments policies
Experience
Some knowledge of aquatic animal care in a professional or educational setting
Experience in public interaction or guest services
Strong attention to detail
SCUBA Rescue Diver certification is a bonus
Education
Pursuing or holding a degree in Biology, Marine Biology, Zoology, Psychology, or related Life Sciences — OR
Experience working in aquariums, zoos, or animal care departments — OR
A mix of practical knowledge and a degree in another field
Other Requirements
Ability to keep workspaces clean and organized
Comfortable with aquatic smells, excrements, and cold/fresh/marine water
Capable of following instructions, observing details, and making sound decisions
Friendly, polite, and service‑oriented demeanor when interacting with guests
Ability to stand for long periods
Able to communicate the aquarium’s mission with passion
Flexibility to work weekends, nights, holidays & occasional on‑call shifts
Work Environment & Schedule Work takes place in various indoor areas with different temperatures & surfaces.
Occasional outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
Flexible schedule aligned with attraction operating hours.
Weekend & holiday availability required.
