Summary The Practice Manager I is responsible for managing a single physician practice location with five or fewer providers. This role oversees all functions of the assigned practice, including organization, planning, day‑to‑day operations; provides leadership; sets goals; and ensures quality, performance, and production standards.

Responsibilities

Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Responsible for hiring, training, developing, and evaluating employee performance.

Provides supervision and direction for all practice staff; plans, assigns, and directs workflow; serves as liaison among physicians, management, and other departments.

Participates in budgetary planning, implementation, and monitoring of all financial aspects of the practice.

Manages patient scheduling and throughput, physician and staff productivity, and adequate staffing, equipment, and supplies.

Ensures compliance with billing, accounting procedures, revenue cycle, and financial audit requirements.

Identifies trends and develops action plans to address customer, employee, and physician satisfaction issues; participates in teams to achieve desired results.

Handles facility management, equipment, and safety issues; ensures compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines (HIPAA, OSHA, infection prevention).

Coordinates ongoing unit‑based performance improvement activities.

Demonstrates excellent customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and visitors; demonstrates leadership in communication and teamwork.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

None required.

Professional Experience Requirements

Two (2) years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably a physician office or outpatient setting, and one (1) year of supervisory experience for those with a bachelor’s degree.

Six (6) years of experience in a healthcare setting, and one (1) year of supervisory experience for those with an associate’s degree.

Ten (10) years of experience in a healthcare setting, and one (1) year of supervisory experience for those with a high school or GED.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Language skills: read, write, and interpret business and professional documents; present information and answer questions.

Mathematical skills: work with percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Computer skills: use practice management and EHR systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Reasoning ability: solve practical problems in varied settings and interpret written or oral instructions.
