Body Shop Technician Level I – 2nd Shift
This position is for a learning-level body shop technician on the 2nd shift (4:30 PM–3:00 AM, Monday‑Thursday) at Cirrus Aircraft UK Ltd. The role includes mask‑out work, body filler application, sanding, and paint preparation on aircraft components in a physically demanding environment.
Job Summary The Body Shop Technician is the first step in the exterior finishing process. Responsibilities include inspecting parts, following written procedures, applying body filler, sanding to the required surface finish, and preparing parts for primer and paint.
Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions
Inspect aircraft components, sub‑assemblies, and composite parts to determine surface preparation needs.
Identify and communicate defects or errors to the supervisor.
Mask and shield parts and areas that are not to be painted.
Apply body filler and perform sanding to achieve a smooth and clean surface contour.
Use air tools and hand tools for high‑volume sanding and grinding.
Adhere strictly to personal protective equipment and safety data sheet requirements.
Read engineering drawings, blueprints, and production illustrations to identify part locations and dimensions.
Fill and finish voids, cavities, dents, and repairs on metal and composite components.
Spray protective materials (primer, gel coat, finishing coats) using a spray gun or gravity‑fed gun.
Regulate spray width and pressure, and ensure surface finishes match specification requirements.
Complete all necessary documentation, work instructions, and change order forms accurately.
Operate pneumatic tools and apply metal/composite repair techniques as needed.
Maintain a clean, organized work area and minimize waste disposal.
Work independently or as part of a small team under a fast‑paced schedule.
Qualifications
Minimum one year of experience with surface filler, drywall mudding, or related training.
Demonstrated ability to develop interpersonal relationships and work effectively in a team environment.
High level of integrity and ability to communicate errors to leadership.
Self‑motivated, reliable, and adaptable to changing work requirements.
Strong reading comprehension of drawings and the ability to calculate dimensions to the thousandth of an inch.
Basic knowledge of hand and power tools with good judgment for tool selection.
High School diploma or GED required.
Experience in auto/marine mechanic, collision repair, assembly, or related fields is advantageous.
Military or reserve service experience in a non‑mechanical discipline is also considered relevant.
Proficiency in preparing surfaces for adhesives, cleaning, sanding, and masking.
Knowledge of carpentry, construction, or DIY repair useful for detailed work.
