Position Summary The Kitchen Staff and Teacher Aid will assist the Site Manager in providing a supportive, respectful, safe and healthy environment for children enrolled in YWCA Early Learning Centers. The position will be responsible for all meal preparations: prepping breakfast and PM snack and plating and serving lunch to each classroom. Additionally, the role will know all the food safety and CACFP procedures. The Kitchen Staff and Teacher Aid will monitor the kitchen inventory and keep the kitchen organized, clean and sanitary at all times. The role may be asked to support classrooms by stepping into ratio or to cover another employee’s break.
Duties Essential Functions of the Job:
Ensures the temperature of hot meals are served between 140 to 180 degree Fahrenheit, and all cold meals are no higher than 40 degrees and document at each mealtime;
Ensures a thermometer is in each refrigerator with a temperature that reads 40 degrees or below and the freezer is at 0 degrees;
Stores food properly in cold storage and cabinets;
Maintains all areas to health code standards; and
Reports any mishaps and/ or concerns in the kitchen to the Site Manager.
Documentation, Inventory, and Recordkeeping:
Logs the number of lunches ordered and delivered;
Checks kitchen inventory, and restocks the items as needed;
Reports any inventory needs when low to the Site Manager;
Follows daily food menu and marks on all menus when changes are made; and
Ensures Site Manager is kept up to date on all meal preparations (delivery, prep, inventory, etc.).
Preparation and Organization:
Prepares meals to be served as family style eating;
Prepares breakfast and PM snack;
Organizes the kitchen station with all the required equipment;
Assists in classroom preparedness and stocks necessary supplies in each classroom;
Assists in unloading deliveries (including all kitchen deliveries) and properly put away supplies.
Sanitation:
Ensures the kitchen is always clean and sanitized;
Cleans the trash bins weekly or as needed; and
Adheres to all the food hygiene and sanitation.
Training and Support:
Attends annual CACFP training;
The ability to complete and obtain a Safe Serve course if applicable;
Completes OEC training on health and safety as assigned annually;
Supports classroom ratio if needed and willing to travel if needed; and
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements Education:
High School Diploma or GED;
Experience:
18 years of age or older
CPR/ First Aid certification or certification within two months of employment.
